His words still ringing in the air, Lurk stood for a moment at the top of the stairs to give them moment to sink in. Then he started confidently down the stairs.
He stared straight at Totentanz, keeping eye contact with the Vampire as he walked, taking the stairs by feel.
Maybe he missed a step, or it disappeared out from under his foot. Either way, there was empty space under his foot, and with a cry of surprise, Lurk went tumbling down the stairs to land sprawled at the bottom.
Abraham groaned and rubbed his forehead, while Eve rushed to help her
